1. A good
Lasik candidate needs to have sufficient corneal thickness
The surgeon of Lasik needs to create a corneal flap and
usually prefer to leave 250 microns of cornea untouched. If
the cornea is too thin, the surgeon may not be able to safely create the flap.
2. Pupils of good candidate is not larger than 7mm in dark
The standard optical zone for LASIK surgery is 6.0 - 6.5
millimeters. Pupils larger than 7mm in the dark will due to increased
risk of vision glare and halos at night and decreased night
vision. Large pupils may require your LASIK surgeon to make
adjustments, but will not usually preclude you from
successfully undergoing LASIK eye surgery.
3. The evidence of keratoconus are not candidates for Lasik
Keratoconus is the most frequently encountered deformation
of the cornea. The most likely causes of Keratoconus are inherited abnormality,
eye injury and eye disease. Keratoconus is a disease
characterized by a pathological thinning of the cornea.
Keratoconus is an absolute contraindication for having LASIK
and really any type of refractive Laser Eye Surgery.
4. Corneas can not be scarred, abnormal
Corneal scarring can disqualify you from undergoing Lasik
eye surgery. There are many possible explanations for
scarred or abnormal corneas such as disease, trauma, aging
or past eye surgery. A good LASIK candidate has a smooth,
clear cornea. Scarring can be caused by keratitis
(inflammation of the cornea) when it involves the cornea's deeper levels.
