Second most common complication, risk Lasik - Undercorrection & Overcorrection
Undercorrection and Overcorrection are the second most common
complications of Lasik eye surgery (The
most common complications is Dry eyes). It means there is residual refractive error impairing vision. Normal,
these problems are temporary and resolve themselves in a matter
of months. Occasionally, they are permanent.
Reasons of Undercorrection & Overcorrection after Lasik
-
Most common reason : Everyone's corneas can vary greatly
from patient to patient, in terms of water content, healing
ability, and other variables that are beyond the control of
the surgeon. So it is difficult to predict who will develop
an undercorrection or overcorrection with LASIK.
-
Another reason is related to an inaccurate diagnosis or
incorrect settings programmed into software guiding the laser
during eye surgery

Treatment of Undercorrection & Overcorrection after Lasik
Sometimes an initial Overcorrection or
Undercorrection may occur and usually corrects itself in the
first month.
If you have a significant undercorrection or overcorrection, A
repeat laser eye surgery can usually be performed in an attempt
to improve the uncorrected vision, and it is often successful.
This usually takes place between six to twelve months after the
initial LASIK surgery, after the vision has stabilized. However,
if your corneas are either too steep or too thin, you may not be
able to undergo an enhancement procedure. It also can be solved
with glasses or contacts glasses.
